Who will take on our first Drupal 8 project?

At the turn of the year of 2015-2016, Tourism in Skåne was in need of a site that could stand on its own, as an inspirational site. The goal and vision was to launch a modern and clean website that inspires and provides up-to-date information for both long-term travellers and residents in Skåne.

In October 2015, Drupal 8 announced its first release and at Odd Hill we were ready from the get-go to take on a project we could develop in Drupal 8. Drupal 8 includes new features and improvements for both the user and developers, such as an upgraded user interface, WYSIWYG and in-place editing, enhanced support for mobile, etc. Odd Hill's recommendation is that all projects should now be developed in Drupal 8.

Improvements in Drupal 8 - focusing on the interface

Odd Hill was therefore commissioned by Tourism in Skåne to design and develop our first Drupal 8 website - visitskane.com. Christoffer Palm, who is responsible for the back-end development of the site, thinks it's a very big advantage that Drupal 8 now builds on object-oriented programming. The whole system is rebuilt from scratch, which has created a new and modern foundation. The advantage of this is that they have been able to make use of already existing and well-functioning components from, for example, Symfony and the rest of the PHP world, which was not possible before. Generally, you’ll notice that the entire Drupal 8 interface has been upgraded with many graphical changes and responsive design. This has of course created more motivation for the team at Odd Hill to deliver better solutions to Tourism in Skåne.

Michaela, the project manager for the project, was really motivated by having such a driven and determined client as Josefine Nordgren at Tourism in Skåne. She’s clear about her needs and and an excellent communicator. During the course of the project she has taken on a great respect for everyone's knowledge and professional roles.
